Chapter 16 Integrating Acceleration
The main goal for this lab is for you to secure your CPX/CPB on the dashboard of your car and take acceleration data while you accelerate and decelerate. You will then plot that data and integrate it to get velocity and position. You will also compare your results to GPS data taken on your phone using PhyPhox. This is a pretty fun lab and itβs really cool to see the acceleration data coming from your car. Itβs also really interesting to see how the velocity and position plots look after integrating the acceleration data. You will probably be surprised at how bad the velocity and position plots look after integrating the acceleration data. This is because of bias in the accelerometer data which gets integrated as well and causes the velocity and position plots to drift over time. Note that you will be using a vehicle to do this lab and you should be very careful when gathering data. Make sure to do this in a safe location and only accelerate to speeds you are comfortable with. I also require you to have a partner in the car with you while you take data so that you are not driving and taking data at the same time. I am not responsible for any damage done to your vehicle or anyone else because you are doing this project.
